Seriously Calm

WHAT I'M DOING NOW

Updated May 20th, 2024, Hong Kong.

Building seriously calm

I find myself deeply enthralled b the phrase "seriously calm" after hearing Radiohead's album bearing the same title. While the album itself may not hold as much significance as "OK Computer" and "Pablo Honey", its name always evokes a sense of serenity within me. To me it means a path to embrace steadfast composure and profound relaxation unmoved, a quality that greatly appeals to me.

Perhaps it would be better for me to create a little log for the birth, growth and the eventual demise of this site.

Skateboarding

I have recently taken up a hobby and it's more encompassing compared to snowboarding and scuba diving (Hong Kong is not a good place to scuba diving despite of the abundance of sea).

While the sport remains relatively uncommon in my city, and I don't really have enthusiastic friends in this sport, praticing various tricks is a mindful experience for me. The feeling of succesfully landing a new trick is overwhelming.

Up to now I have improved my Ollie significantly, and I am trying to land my first kickflip.

I set up a little store in Etsy to sell some funny skateboard t-shirts but unluckily so far nothing has been sold...

Half-marathon

After completing the 10k run for two years, I decide to take up a different challenge this year - running my first half-marathon. As someone who would feel exhausted after a 2k run a few years ago, this would be a major 10x milestone.

The race date is 21th Jan, 2024. 13 weeks to go. A self reminder:

Perhaps happiness is always to be found in the journey uphill, and not in the fleeting sense of satisfaction awaiting at the next peak.

Update: I've successfully completed my first half-marathon with a time of 1:59:56! My gibberish here.

Update 2: I'm moving on to train for my first marathon!

Marathon

I plan to join the Kanazawa Marathon 2024 and I have been training over the last few months (although it hasn't been very intense). My target is to complete the race, or better, to finish within 4 hours and 15 minutes (6:00/km).

As of May 2024, I haven't been able to pick up my pace like I did at the previous half-marathon and so far can only run 14 km at a pace of 6:38/km. What lies in front of me is to run triple the distance and 10% faster. Hmm...

Meowtopia

As I grow up, my affinity for cats has grown, surpassing my fondness for dogs. While I struggle to articulate the exact reasons, I feel that their love possess an oriental essence - subtle, yet undeniably potent.

It inspires me to combining this preference with Ukiyo-e from Japan, which seems like a flawless union, as both represent a certain sort of mystery. It is, without a doubt, my favourite combination.

Despite my limited artistic talent, it's fun to use MidJourney to create Ukiyo-e cat images. cats in different art contexts. It brings newfound vitality into these imaginative kittys, elevating their existence to new heights - an endeavour that I really enjoy.

I've put some of the images here.
